Chairman of the Convention, Bert Biscoe, said after Cornwall Council's February meeting
at which changes to the Cabinet were announced :
"Congratulations to Julian German, whose new Cornwall Council Cabinet post, Localism,
Sustainability and Devolution, offers a real opportunity for the devolution campaign to
engage in meaningful
dialogue with Cornwall Council about the way ahead. The
most
important thing I think about
this is that we will make no headway by
complaining,
but
rather by advancing a positive,
well-founded case which demonstrates that Cornish
devolution is in the general interest of all parts of the UK."
He added :
"Julian's shift in focus comes as the result of the illness of Mr Ray Tovey, who has had to stand
down. Ray has been an exceptional member of Cornwall Council, with both a keen intellect
and an open mind. The absent professional care and genial disposition of Mr Tovey are
already
depleting the resources of Cornwall Council. All our thanks are due to him
for his efforts on
the Council, and as a teacher, a leading developer
of community
and parish
plans and as a
compassionate, just and forthright person - a rare human being." |
